Timing is Everything
When it comes to proper fertilization, timing really is everything. Lawn care specialists will tell you that springtime is the optimum time of year to fertilize your lawn. It is best to feed your lawn when the soil temperature reaches 55º F. So how can you tell when it has reached 55º F? When the grass starts “greening up”and the lilacs start blooming, it’s a pretty good indication that the soil has reached that temperature. In most areas of the US, that means around mid-April.
Indresano Landscaping schedules 5 feedings between spring and fall beginning in mid to late April. The next feeding should be done 4 weeks later in mid-May. After that, your lawn should be fertilized every 6 to 8 weeks until October. Additionally, the third feeding should be done using manure or another organic material. When you have our technicians fertilizing your lawn on a regularly scheduled basis, you can be assured that the proper amount of fertilizer will be applied.
We Know the Right Numbers
Indresano Landscaping views fertilization as a science of numbers. Have you ever noticed the 3 numbers on the label of a bag of fertilizer? Moving from left to right, those 3 numbers tell you the percentage of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium that the fertilizer contains. So, if you see “30-0-10” on the label, that means the fertilizer contains 30% nitrogen, 0% phosphorus, and 10% potassium. The remaining percentage is usually filler material to ensure that the fertilizer is applied evenly.

In turn, this helps strengthen the root system and prevents muddy spots by reducing flooding.
